September 15 Prayer

Widow Mary stood near
To the cross of Jesus
her son
God in flesh

She came closest to His pain
To touch suffering
Without any shame

Widow Mary came nearer to enter in
Because of love
She could not leave the place of pain

Neither did Brother John, the one who leaned
he did not leave but took her in.
As Jesus told him to.

And this day He still speaks;

‘Come near to me
When the suffering one calls
It is me.

‘When it breaks your heart let it break wide open
to love that will never leave.
Let it be your strength, your rock and stronghold.

My arms stretched out are that wide
to hold all the pain of those that are suffering
right now.

The grieving and desperate ones
I do not leave alone.’

Lord, Jesus,
May we look to you for our source of strength,
our hope and joy to walk with others that suffer this day.

When we want to leave and walk away
help us to see it is you that we draw near to.
Your cross can bear it all.

Your call upon us is not far away but is right here
in our words and in our hearts.

Make our lives this day a living prayer
in everything we do,
in everything we see,
and in everything we say.
